BIHAR SCHOOL OF YOGA

  Bihar Yoga Bharati is dedicated to the study of yoga in an ashram environment, providing a spiritual oasis in the material and technological desert of the 21st century. Bihar Yoga Bharati (BYB), an Institute for Advanced Studies in Yogic Sciences, is the first of its kind in the world wholly devoted to the subject of yoga. It is located within the Ganga Darshan Complex in Munger on a powerful energy center about 172 km from Patna. It is on top of the hill overlooking the river Ganga.

WOOD CRAFT

  It has a huge religious importance for the Buddhist followers and pilgrims who come to visit the Holy place of Bodh Gaya, the place of Buddha’s enlightenment. The purchase of idols of Buddha has got a big ritual significance for Buddhist pilgrims. This is source of livelihood for artisans engaged in the craft. The raw materials used for the wood craft include Gambhar wood which is being purchased from Gaya’s local market. This is a unique product handcrafted by artisans. This craft provides livelihood support to families of about 200-400 artisans on regular basis in Gaya district of Bihar.

METAL CRAFT

  Gold and Silver metal are widely used for the manufacturing of jewellery items. The jewellery items of Silver manufactured in Munger and Banka district of Bihar are much in demand in the various parts of the country. Brass and Ashtdhatu metals are used for the manufacturing of the idols of various Hindu deities. Bettiah, West Champaran and Vaishali are famous for the manufacturing of metal idols. The metal works of copper, brass, and bell metal are famous products. The craftsmen of Bihar used three different techniques namely last wax method, Reposee and Dhokra for the manufacturing of various metal items.

MADHUBANI PAINTING

  The process of painting and the use of natural dyes and pigments provide an eye-catching finish to these paintings. Traditionally, the painting was done on freshly plastered mud walls and floors of huts; but over the years it has moved to varied mediums including cloths, handmade papers, and canvas. Madhubani Painting is done with fingers, twigs, brushes, nib-pens, and matchsticks, using natural dyes and pigments, and is characterized by eye-catching geometrical patterns. This is a unique craft, handcrafted by artisans. Madhubani Painting provides livelihood support to about 20000-25000 artisan’s family on regular basis in Madhubani district and other places of Bihar.

Buddha Smriti Park

  It is an urban oasis sprawling across a generous area of 22 acre.  The highlight of the park are two Bodhi trees, planted by the Dalai Lama, which flank a statue of Lord Buddha. Also known as the Buddha Memorial Park, it is located on Frazer Road near Patna Junction, opposite the Mahavir Mandir. Aimed at highlighting the life and teachings of Lord Buddha, the multi-purpose park comprises the Pataliputra Karuna Stupa, a meditation center, a library with numerous books on Buddhism, a museum as well as a Park of Memories. The 200-ft-high Pataliputra Karuna Stupa is a circular structure that is the most prominent feature of the park. It has several entrances and houses a relic of Lord Buddha, which is one of the eight original relics excavated from Vaishali, in a glass enclosure. There are several other relics, brought by His Holiness the Dalai Lama and several monks from Thailand, Myanmar, Japan, South Korea and Sri Lanka, kept in different caskets.   Bihar plays an important role in the history and development of Hinduism as a religion. This legendary land is the place where most of the tales of Lord Ram and Goddess Sita took place in Valmiki’s epic that has contributed to the Hindu religious and social fabric. Many of the locations mentioned in this legend are in Bihar and considered holy sites for Hindus. Temples depicting the tales of Ram and Sita can be found in this circuit.

Sujata Stupa

  Sujata Stupa, also Sujata Kuti stupa or Sujata Garh, is a Buddhist stupa located in the village of Senanigrama slightly east of Bodh Gaya in the state of Bihar, India. It lies directly across the Phalgu River from the town of Bodh Gaya, where Gautama Buddha is said to have attained enlightenment. It is a walk of about 20 minutes, from Bodh Gaya to Sujata Stupa. It was initially built in the 2nd century BCE as confirmed by finds of Dark Grey polished wares and a punch- marked coin in the monastery nearby.
